Holt is pitted against the self-satisfied local landowner Harold Transome, both politically and in his pursuit of Esther Lyon. This specific copy has light edge wear, corners bumped, light wear to the extremities; There is a small square label affixed to the front pastedown indicating that it belonged to a Private Library but no other ex-library markings
